House
Haiku House is a unique timber-frame home thoughtfully situated on 53 acres at the top of gentle hills of hardwood forests surrounding an 8 acre spring-fed pond. It was conceived and created in collaboration with architects and builders from the well known Yestermorrow Design/Build School in Vermont and assembled by master timber framer Josh Jackson.
The front porch looks out over mature gardens with a 26 foot stream ending in a recirculating waterfall offering the sounds of falling water and morning birdsong. Generous, large windows and skylights keep the house flooded with natural light while deep overhangs block harsh sun. Both sunlight and moonlight play through the open spaces of this home, creating a sense of refuge and filling the space with peace and creative energy. Upon entering, visitors pause to take in the natural cherry trees (harvested on the property) supporting the large beams of the cathedral ceiling.
This home is 16 years old but due to loving and meticulous maintenance to every detail it appears almost new, only growing richer and more “wabi sabi” with each passing year.
Cabin
An off-grid timber frame, cedar-shingled cabin with cedar deck (built around a live tree) sits at the edge of the 8 acre pond, accessed by a trail through the woods, across a 70 foot long hand-built wooden bridge, past giant pines, cherry and other varied species of trees, ferns and sapling. Three sides of windows and sliding glass doors make for a luxurious way to return to nature, sans-electricity or running water. Enjoy the privacy and sounds of nature through all four seasons.
Garage
The detached 24′ x 40′ workshop/garage features three bays, one of which is ready for a lift, with a storage loft above the other two bays. Two large built-in work benches accommodate a variety of projects.
